 Earth Day

this Sunday in today's post I thought I'd put a spin on globes!

Vintage globes look beautiful when collected -

or as -

stand alone pieces.

They can add personality to a children's space -

or grace a -

special celebration.

You can also use globes to leave a message -

or in other ways -

which are most unexpected.

My favourite globes at the moment though are -

these handpainted globes by Wendy Gold. Although price wise, they a little bit out of my league! Anyone feeling generous?!

A happy weekend to you and remember -

  1. Hello Stephie:
We do, from time to time, come across some very desirable, and very expensive (sigh) globes which are always of interest not least because they show names of countries, and sometimes whole countries, which no longer exist.

On very early globes, most likely of British manufacture, Great Britain is often portrayed disproportionately when compared with other countries so that it becomes possible to have England twice the size of, say, Africa. Such is the confidence of Empire makers!!

    Jó hétvégét.

  6. What a great post- you reminded me that I had a lovely globe when I was a child and I don't know what happened to it - maybe my brother has it! I love the cute note on the globe and I like the idea of having an old one with the former names of countries.
